It’s important for us to shed this sterilized image the Church has created for itself, as though all the good, healthy people are inside the churches, while all the bad, addicted ones are out there, somewhere. We’re not here because we’re perfect; we’re here because we’re in recovery. We’re here because we don’t want our souls to die the death addiction and depression can bring. We’re here because we believe there’s a God of grace who can help us carry these burdens, a God who takes our sins away and gives us a fresh start. We’re here because we need each other, and because we want to help other people recover.
