A leading divorce attorney was recently asked his opinion about the number one reason why married couples split up. Adultery? Addiction? Money? Sex?
His response was surprising: "They refuse to accept the fact that they're married to a human being."
The gospel of Jesus teaches us that God has chosen to transform human beings not with punishment, or shame, or passive aggression; instead, God has chosen to save us by grace alone. Because grace is the only way to change anything.
Marriage works in the same way. Over time, it's easy to become bitter, resentful, and angry at your spouse. It's easy to withdraw, to lash out, and to act as if you're no longer on the same team. But nothing ever changes that way. Not your marriage. Not your spouse. Not you.
Understanding the power of grace - God's free, undeserved gift of love - is essential to making your marriage all that it can be.
