our history

How We Began

Founded by community leader, educator, and entrepreneur Mark Byrd, KC Redemption was created from a long-standing commitment to transforming lives and strengthening communities throughout Kansas City. As the CEO and Founder of New Reflections Technical Institute, Mark Byrd has spent nearly two decades developing innovative programs designed to address the social and economic challenges affecting underserved and at-risk populations.

Through education, vocational training, and workforce development initiatives, Mark introduced meaningful opportunities to individuals who were often overlooked by traditional systems. His work has consistently focused on creating pathways to stability, self-sufficiency, and long-term success for those facing significant barriers.

Recognizing the growing challenges faced by justice-involved individuals returning to the community, Mark expanded his vision by establishing KC Redemption. He understood that many formerly incarcerated individuals were being released without the support, guidance, or resources needed to successfully rebuild their lives. KC Redemption was created to bridge that gap.

Today, KC Redemption provides comprehensive diversion and re-entry services in collaboration with court advocates, probation and parole officers, caseworkers, community organizations, vocational institutions, and employers. Through structured programming, supportive services, and advocacy, the organization works to reduce recidivism while empowering individuals to regain stability, accountability, and independence.

At its core, KC Redemption is built on the belief that every person deserves the opportunity for redemption, growth, and a second chance. Mark Byrd’s vision continues to inspire a program dedicated to restoring hope, rebuilding lives, and helping individuals create a better future for themselves, their families, and the community
